Spectrum Natural Foods
Spectrum
Naturals makes a trans fat free Organic Shortening that is available
to consumers through supermarkets such as Trader Joe's, Whole
Foods, Wild Oats and others. IT is GMO free, Cholesterol free,
and less saturated than butter. We have put this product in
the hands of some of our favorite bakers, and it has superior
baking performance.
The
main ingredient is Palm Fruit Oil, as opposed to Palm Kernel
Oil. It is made of an oil pressed from the fruit of a Palm tree,
and it's major growing areas are Malaysia, South America, Indonesia
and Western Africa. Palm oil has already seen increased consumption
in Europe due to it's health properties, and it is finally becoming
a more "understood" oil in the United States. Palm
fruit oil is considered a balanced oil, because 50% of it's
fatty acid composition is saturated and 50% is unsaturated.
It is rich in carotenoids (vitamin A) and tocopherols (vitamin
E). Foodservice accounts can obtain this product in 42 oz. and
33 lb. size containers, through BiRite, Mountain People, and
other distributors.
